There’s something about a great hard rock song that doesn’t need much explanation. A riff that catches your attention, a groove that makes you turn it up, and a chorus that stays in your head long after the song is over. That’s always been the kind of music I’ve enjoyed playing, and it’s a big part of what went into the latest FOUST single, “Devolver.”

The new track arrives November 20, 2026, through 1840 Music Group, and we’re already getting it out to rock radio around the world. It’s aggressive, loud, and built around the combination of hard rock and industrial influences that have always been part of my musical background.

About the Song

“Devolver” started with the kind of guitar riff that immediately gives a song its direction. There’s a certain amount of swagger to it, but underneath that is a darker, mechanical quality that really drives the arrangement. Once the drums and vocals come in, everything starts moving toward a big chorus that contrasts with the tighter, more aggressive verses.

Musically, there’s a lot happening. The guitars have that gritty hard rock sound, but the rhythms and production incorporate industrial elements that give the track a different kind of energy. I’ve always loved bands that could combine heavy guitars with electronic textures and still write songs with memorable hooks. Filter, Nine Inch Nails, Velvet Revolver, and even bands like Muse have all explored different versions of that idea.

With “Devolver,” I wanted those elements to feel like they belonged together rather than competing for attention. The guitars are aggressive, the drums drive everything forward, and the vocals move between tension and release. The chorus opens things up, giving the song a bigger, more anthemic feel without losing its edge.

Let It Go. Let It Take Over.

Lyrically, “Devolver” deals with confrontation, control, and the point where you have to decide whether to keep fighting or let something take its course. There’s a recurring tension throughout the song between standing your ground and surrendering to the chaos surrounding you.

That’s part of what makes the chorus work for me. The repeated title hook and the line “Let it go, let it take over” create this push and pull between resistance and release. The music keeps building around that idea, with heavy guitars and driving rhythms reinforcing the emotional intensity.

I like songs that leave some room for interpretation. Someone might hear it as a song about conflict, while someone else might connect it to a personal struggle or a situation they’ve experienced. I’m fine with either interpretation. Once the song is out there, it belongs to the listener as much as it does to the person who wrote it.

The Evolution of FOUST

FOUST started in 2019 as a way for me to focus on writing and recording the kind of rock music I wanted to make. Coming out of years of playing with Blackwater James and working across different styles of music, I wanted a project that gave me the freedom to explore everything from traditional hard rock to darker, industrial-influenced sounds.

Our first releases, including REVIVAL and IT’S A VIBE, helped establish that direction. Songs like “The Fountain,” “The Dark,” and “Unmake Me” explored different parts of the rock spectrum, from blues-influenced guitars to more contemporary alternative sounds.

We continued building on that with singles such as “This Chariot Is on Fire,” “Fashion,” and “Suns.” Each had its own identity, and I think that’s important. I never wanted FOUST to be a project where every song sounded exactly the same. Some songs lean into melody, others into atmosphere, and some are just meant to hit hard.

“Devolver” falls firmly into that last category, while still incorporating the melodies and layered production that have become part of the FOUST sound.

DEVOLVER Is Heading to International Rock Radio

One of the things I’m particularly excited about with this release is that we’re taking it to radio internationally ahead of the official release date.

Through 1840 Music Group, “Devolver” is being promoted to terrestrial and streaming radio stations, independent rock programs, and specialty shows around the world. There’s a great network of independent rock stations and programmers who continue to support new music, and I’m looking forward to introducing FOUST to more of those audiences.

If you’re a DJ, radio programmer, music journalist, or playlist curator, we’ve put together an electronic press kit with the song, band information, promotional photography, and everything you need to consider the track for your station or publication.

“Devolver” will be available on major streaming platforms beginning November 20. In the weeks leading up to the release, we’ll be sharing guitar performances, studio content, acoustic versions, and plenty of other material around the song.

I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks, especially those who have been following FOUST since the beginning. We’ve covered a lot of musical ground over the years, and there’s still plenty more to come.

For now, turn it up and get ready for “Devolver.”
